Studio REDD works for clients in the corporate and public sector. We design public spaces such as parks, squares, and areas. In addition to this, we are highly experienced at designing office gardens, and we realise projects in fields such as healthcare, leisure and hospitality. We practically always collaborate with specialists (such as urban planners, civil engineers, architects and policy makers). With them, we are often part of an integral design team.

What do we offer our clients?

• Fifteen years of experience
• Full control over budgets during every phase of the project
• Expert project management with a fixed point of contact
• From conceptual sketches to extensive visualization and detailed design drawings of the entire project
• Flexibility in scaling up capacity

We have the following phases of the planning process fully in-house
1. Initiation phase (this phase is often with the client)
2. Definition phase (PVE)
3. Design phase (Vision/master plan- SO – VO – DO)
4. Detailing (Dimensions / TO) (i.c.w. Buiten-Ruimte)
5. Price and contract (tender, application)
6. Execution (realisation and delivery)
7. Aftercare (use)

2. Definition phase

During this phase, we draw up a program of requirements, together with the client and possible end-user. We make an inventory of all wishes and needs, of both the client and the users. This provides a complete picture and lays the foundation for the planning. We each express our expectations in order to achieve the final goal together. During this phase, we roughly map out the demarcation of the planning area and its connection to the environment.

3. Design phase

We split the design phase into sections. Firstly, we determine the vision or the master plan, depending on the size of the project. This first design phase is followed by a sketched design, a provisional design and a final design.

• Vision and/or master plan

We are usually invited to collaborate on projects that include several subprojects. In the master plan, we work out a global vision that relates to the area in which we design. We apply frameworks when it comes to space, functionality and budget. This rough outline is the basis for a later, more detailed elaboration.

• Sketches

The starting points in the master plan are clear. We use this phase to translate our ideas into sketches. Stakeholders often have an important role at this stage. Involving them in the sketch makes for joint ideas and broad support. During this phase, we mainly think in structures and create a global picture of the possibilities.

• Provisional design

The first sketches were presented and provided with feedback by all involved. Taking this feedback, we go back to the drawing board and continue to filter in order to come closer and closer to the desired design. Samples and mood boards are tools to gauge a client’s wishes, to make final choices and elaborate the atmosphere in detail.

• Final design

We work out the sketches in detail to establish the aesthetic qualities of the project. Various end products are possible at this stage. Possibilities include 2D and 3D designs and a planting plan for example. We work out the dimensions and placement in detail. For example, the pavements for paths, or the kinds of trees or plants used.

4. Technical design/detailing

In the final design, we list all the aesthetic qualities of the design. This is not yet sufficient to come to an implementation plan. We map all dimensions and proportions in a technical design (specification). See the technical design as the construction plan for the plan that we have made. We work this plan out further so that the implementing party can continue to the execution. We take the contractor through the project in a high level of detail. That allows us to make watertight arrangements with regard to implementation, minimising the risk of errors.

5. Pricing and contract

When all plans are finalised, the tender for the execution can be offered. Studio REDD and Buiten-Ruimte (firm specialised in traffic, urban waters and civil engineering) offers advice on the type of tender. What do we include in this? Examples include purchasing policy, setting criteria and determining the method of assessment.

6. Execution

We take on the task of project management, with the aim of guaranteeing the aesthetic qualities of the plan. Through our ongoing involvement, we ensure that agreements made in terms of aesthetics, choice of materials, dimensions, confirmation and budget are met.

7. Aftercare

After the plans have become reality, the space truly comes to life and a dynamic is formed. In the aftercare phase, we usually work together with an environmental manager who has a close relationship with the users. If there is feedback regarding the use of space, we like to use it to help come up with possible optimisations.

After completion, a project still requires management, of course. We also have expertise in this area. We are happy to share this expertise, for example by creating management plans.
